I would consider this to be a potential speech for Toastmasters. I would start by writing out my speech, normally health related. Now as I look at this speech, it appears to be very boring. The topic might be of interest, but it is not entertaining. I believe this is the most important aspect of giving a speech. I like to get a strong audience reaction, laughter, shock, deep thought.
At this point, I would look for ways to illicit these emotions with creative editing and presentation. Example: At the point where I start speaking about natural intuition and the sun. I could bring in an assistant, whose skin was colored beet red, except an area around the eyes, representing sunglasses. I would introduce this person as someone we all know. Someone who has been out in the high noon sun. This might generate some laughs, but then again maybe not. Well you get the idea.
Who’s afraid of the Sun?
Lately everywhere I go, including Toastmasters, I feel like George Hamilton at a Goth concert. If you are too young to know who George Hamilton is, think perpetual tan. I often hear “ Hey, have you been out in the Sun?” well duh! I try my best to have patience and understanding, but I must admit, at times it does become uncomfortable.
The Sun has been around for a pretty long time. In fact it was here before we arrived and it will be here long after were gone. Without it, there would be very little life on our planet.
Contrary to what you have been conditioned to believe, the Sun plays a very important part in health and longevity. It replaces a long list of drugs and medical therapies. It not only replaces them it does a better job and it’s free. Let’s take a look at the list and learn how the Sun does a better job.
Sleeping medications Ambien, Lunesta, Restoril, Prosom, Sonata
SSRI’s Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, these all help depression by blocking the reuptake of Serotonin.
Cholesterol lowering drugs Lipitor, Crestor, Zocor, Trixor, Pravachol, Lopid, Lescol, Mevacor, Welchol,
Medications for impotence Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, along with testosterone replacement therapy.
Medication for osteoporosis Actone, Fosamax, Evista, Calcimar, Miacalcin, Forteo.
Obesity drugs Xenical, Meridia, along with a long list of supplements, particularly thermogenic substances.
Treatments for Cancer Chemotherapy, Radiation, Prostatectomy, Hysterectomy, Lumpectomy along with complete removal of the breasts.
I will stop here, as the list of drugs and therapies the Sun replaces is just too numerous. It represents trillions of dollars in revenue. Each and every drug and therapy listed treats a symptom, but it does not cure an illness. The body can only heal itself, when given the proper tools, nutrient dense foods, fresh air, clean water and plenty of Sunshine.
If we used our natural intuition, we would seek the warmth of the Sun in the early spring. We would slowly build up our tolerance by being out in the early morning Sun and back again in the late evening. These are the times of day when the Sun is of most benefit. Contrary to popular belief, not being exposed to the Sun all year, then deciding to go on vacation to equator in the middle of the summer, slather chemicals all over your body, then sitting in the blistering high noon heat is not something your natural intuition would have you do. Unless you’re a lizard, most animals seek the shade at this point in the day.
How does the Sun impart health on the human body?
When the early morning Sun hits your retina and this means no UV blocking devices like sunglasses. It sends a signal to the pineal gland in the middle of your brain. The main job of the pineal gland is to produce melatonin and serotonin. During the daylight hours the Sun suppresses melatonin helping to energize the body. The same daytime exposure helps you produce more melatonin at night, giving you a sound and restful sleep. It also helps your body produce more serotonin. Having more serotonin in your body helps relieve depression, cuts down your cravings for carbohydrates, decreases impulsiveness and generally makes you a happy person.
The Sun helps regulate hormone levels. Sun exposure raises testosterone levels, doubling and sometimes tripling those levels. Higher testosterone levels, improve mood, lowers body fat, including blobs of cellulite, and increases both muscle mass and libido.
The Sun protects you from Cancer. A recent study found a close inverse correlation between cancer mortality and levels of exposure to ultraviolet B light. These include, breast, colon, ovarian, bladder, uterus, esophagus, rectum and stomach cancer.
People taking cholesterol-lowering medication have a higher risk of Cancer. The body needs cholesterol, what it can’t get through diet, it makes on it’s own. Cholesterol is needed for a host of functions in the body. The Sun uses cholesterol to make vitamin D and vitamin D protects the body from Cancer. The body has the ability to store vitamin D. Your exposure during the warm months, will determine you reserves in the winter. Vitamin D also gives us strong bones and teeth.
If the Sun does not cause Cancer, but helps the body protect itself from the disease, what causes cancer? Let’s take a look at some of the likely suspects.
A diet high in the omega 6 fatty acid. This is obtained from a diet high in vegetable oils, grains, along with meats and fish fed with grain. The ideal level that our ancestors had was a 1:1 ratio of omega 3 to omega 6. This was obtained from eating a nutrient dense all natural diet. The average American diet is 1:20, greatly increasing a diagnosis of cancer.
Eating meat, poultry and fish that have been fed massive amounts of hormones to get their weight up and ready for market as quickly as possible.
Other potential carcinogens used on a daily basis.
Octyomethoxcinnamate, used in 90% if all sunscreens, shown to kill living cells.
Titanium Dioxide, used in sunscreens, a known potential carcinogen.
Chemicals in aftershave, Benzyl Acetate, Ethyl Acetate, Terpineal, linked to cancer, damage to the liver and kidneys, and dehydration of the skin.
Shaving foams and creams, Benzaldehyde, Camphor, Ethanol, Limonene, Linalool, G-Terpinene, carcinogenic substances along with causing skin, eye, lung, and kidney damage.
Parabens, found in blush, mascara, lipstick, hair dye, powder, foundation, concealer, moisturizers, and sunscreen all linked to breast cancer.
Phthalates, found in skin moisturizers and nail polish, also known to cause birth defects.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, found in shampoo, body wash, bubble bath, and toothpaste. Contains carcinogenic contaminants and increases the absorption of toxic chemicals.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. We are exposed to a vast array of chemicals on a daily basis. From those listed above to others that are perceived of as being benign, like chlorine and fluoride.
I’m sure you’re all familiar with the effects florescent lighting has on the body. It has been shown to decrease melatonin production. Low levels of melatonin equal massive tumor growth, while high levels equal suppressed tumor growth. How often are you sitting under this type of lighting?
If you have the unnatural habit of sitting in the high noon sun. The intense UV radiation would help give your skin plenty of wrinkles. An international study found those who consumed a diet high in fruits, vegetables and nuts were less prone to wrinkles in general, weather they were in the sun or not. So if you’re worried about wrinkles, worry less about the sun, and more about the types of foods you are eating.
You might be asking if all this is true, why don’t I hear more about it? Just for a moment imagine the financial implications if all this was widely reported. It would be devastating to our economy. It’s much easier to place the blame where no financial interest is involved. The Sun is a perfect scapegoat, no one has a patent on it, it can’t be branded, and it doesn’t generate profit. It has become abnormal to be out in the Sun. Being normal nowadays means being on Lipitor, Viagra, HRT, and Prozac. The conditioning of our society is simply amazing.
If you would really like to avoid getting cancer, start by slowly eliminating man made chemicals from your life. Oh and remember to get plenty of Sun.
